Hail Holy Queen

My daughter requested this prayer tonight during our bedtime prayers. Since I only know the beginning and the end, not that pesky middle, I had to look it up. Here is it for you, in case you don't know that pesky middle either.

Hail, Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve, to thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley, of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us; and
after this our exile show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God

That we may be made worthy of the
promises of Christ.

What a lovely prayer to end the day.

At my college, we used to have Sunday Night Prayer using Liturgy of the Hours. It would be followed by Benediction and we'd close with the "Hail Holy Queen." Sometimes we recited it, sometimes we sang it in Latin--it's beautiful.

Teach her the Memorare too. That's one of my very favorites.

Those words, "valley of tears" are sometimes subbed with "vail of tears" ~ which conjured up a most interesting image for me as a child at the end of every rosary. &:o) You know,"Veil of tears"... Love to pray it every evening with the family at the end of the rosary ~ but now say "valley" to avoid confusion...
