had never made chocolate cake without using the mix from a box. But when it was Hubbers' birthday a few months ago, we made a cake from scratch, since I was too lazy to go to the store for a box.

That recipe looks like the one my Grandmother used to make. She made it from a recipe in her head and I never thought to ask her for it before she died.
The one think I remember is that it used 1 cup of brewed coffee, not instant coffee crystals.
She would make it in a bundt pan and pour a peanut butter glaze over it.
If I manage to find time in the kitchen I'll have to try this out.
Does this cake then taste like coffee??? I love chocolate but HATE HATE HATE coffee. Anyone?

No, it doesn't taste like coffee. I just adds a depth to the cake.
