I don't often read Oprah Book Club suggestions since they are often depressing and world weary. So I was surprised when I read the jacket for this book and was intrigued enough to continue on! Non-stop for the next week, I was hooked on the unabridged audio book. Give it a try!

I've been a Ken Follett fan for a long time... read "Pillars" years ago... so was very excited when the sequel "World Without End" came out recently. I recommend "A Place Called Freedom if you're interested in other Follett books.

I LOVED "Pillars" and still recommend it highly. Follett may not be a writer on par with the "Greats", but he can tell a great story! I'm currently reading the sequel "World Without End" and while I am enjoying the story, there are some seriously negative elements (some rauncy material). In particular, one story line concerns two nuns. Perhaps you get my drift? I'm hoping it won't take us there, but I'm not sure.
The other thing is that with "Pillars" you had this great background of the cathedral building. Well, in "World" the cathedral is built, so the focus is on how the town sprang up around it. I am learning a bit more about how economics worked in the Middle Ages, especially guilds.
Anyway - I might give it a review on my blog when I'm done.
