Menu Plan Monday - 2 September - 8 September

One of my kids actually REQUESTED that I make more salad, since I had been lazy about it the past few weeks, so you'll see a lot of salad on the list. Besides that, it's very good for us.

I don't use that nasty, nutritionally insignificant iceberg lettuce unless I need to stretch what I already have (budget- or salad-wise). We go with spinach or romaine lettuce. It should be a yummy week, what with all this salad topped by home grown veggies!

Laura at Organizing Junkie is our loverly host, as always, and provides [me] us with a forum to share our foodie loves each week. Visit her for many moons worth of more menus. (ahhh... I love me some alliteration!)

The first two entries are hold-overs from last week and pizza is what I put down when I don't know what else to write! We don't actually eat as much pizza as my menu shows.

1. Honey Mustard Chicken (recommended by ...Miles to Go...)
2. Porcupine Meatballs over egg noodles, salad
3. Stir Fry - from the bounty of my zucchini friends!
4. leftover extravaganza!
5. French Dip, salad, fries
6. Homemade Pizza, salad
7. Grilled Sausage, pasta salad, chips

I've found that menu planning (which I've been doing for years, even before the advent of the "blog") really helps me save money on the grocery budget. I've not compared how much, really, but for a family of 6 with 4 growing [elephants] kids to feed we spend only about $100 a week. And this total includes paper products, cleaners, pet supplies and so on.

I have done a menu plan since we were married before "blogging" but I do like posting it because I can reference all of my recipes all in one place. LOVE the meals you chose this week. I would love to incorporate more salad items into our menu if I could just sneak it past my husbands. He drowns everything in Ranch dressing--hardly makes it worth it :)

Have a wonderful week, Sara.

Oh and the zucchini is just getting good around here--since you mention zucchini friends. Yummy stuff you've got up.

I'd love to know how you get by for $100 each week - I struggle to stay under $150! I'm impressed!

Your menu sounds delicious! Have a great week!
